{"id":1359,"date":"2017-02-21T19:57:02","date_gmt":"2017-02-21T19:57:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/?p=1359"},"modified":"2017-02-22T05:46:29","modified_gmt":"2017-02-22T05:46:29","slug":"1359","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/1359\/","title":{"rendered":"A New Beginning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m sitting here with a warm cup of tea in my kitchen, and an excited feeling. \u00a0<\/span>Today I launched\u00a0my\u00a0new website, Deep River of Song, which is all about music making as a source of spiritual nourishment. \u00a0I feel excited, full-hearted and deeply grateful to everyone I&#8217;ve worked with over the last few years for helping me find this path. \u00a0Whether you&#8217;ve\u00a0sung in one of my groups, attended a playgroup, or\u00a0come to me for lessons, thank you. \u00a0You&#8217;ve helped me find the work I was meant to do, and, little by little, to nurture the confidence to bring it out into the world. \u00a0\u00a0I could never have put these pieces together without you. \u00a0And now, I can&#8217;t wait to share it with you!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You see, I\u2019ve long dreamed of a unique sort of physical space to teach in. \u00a0It would be a <\/span><b>sacred space devoted to music<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u00a0A big, open room, with exposed beams and incense burning. \u00a0An altar with seashells, leaves, treasures collected by children. \u00a0And some outdoor space&#8211; a few shady trees, a grassy meadow, some wildflowers. \u00a0Nothing too careful or kempt. \u00a0But lots of room to sit, play guitar, sing together.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve never felt too comfortable bringing my children into a \u00a0church, temple, or zendo. \u00a0People have been welcoming, but I feel an internal pressure for my children to be other than they are. \u00a0To be quieter. \u00a0More contained. \u00a0In the sacred space of my imaginings, people wouldn\u2019t feel that way. \u00a0Children would be free to be children\u2013 to dance, play, and sing out loud, and mamas to be mamas\u2013 to talk, nurse, laugh, cry if they needed to. \u00a0Because I don\u2019t know that it gets more sacred than that.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1367 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Happy-Mamas.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"801\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Happy-Mamas.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Happy-Mamas-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Happy-Mamas-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Happy-Mamas-1024x684.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Happy-Mamas-1080x721.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this space, <\/span><b>we\u2019d make music<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u00a0Women, children, grandmothers, babies, all the generations coming together to celebrate and strengthen the music that lives in us, and to experience that special joy that in-person music making can bring.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I haven\u2019t created this temple yet, the musical \/ community-building temple of my dreams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But in my heart, I\u2019m there. \u00a0After years spent cultivating my teaching vision and skills, I feel so alive&#8230; \u00a0So present in this work\u2026 . So overflowing with the impulse to share it\u2026 \u00a0that it was time to create&#8230; something. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So I\u2019ve created a virtual space. \u00a0<\/span><b>Deep River of Song<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The name <\/span><b>Deep River <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">comes from an anonymous spiritual of African American origin. \u00a0With gratitude to the long-ago, unknown author of this song, I\u2019ve taken this phrase to evoke what to me lies at the heart of music making&#8211;
