Oleanna<\/strong>, as it is described in the old folk song of the same name, is a land where life is easy.<\/strong> It’s an idea of paradise cast in the mold of an earlier, maybe simpler time.<\/p>\n In Oleanna<\/strong>, the streets flow with beer. Cows milk themselves. And when you\u2019re hungry, pigs walk up to you, inquiring politely whether you’d like to eat them for dinner.<\/p>\n It\u2019s a sweet, old fashioned piece of musical satire<\/strong>\u2026 And it’s catchy enough to be one of my children’s most requested songs<\/strong> for dancing.<\/p>\n On a lark, I rewrote the song to make it apply to motherhood<\/strong> in our city by the bay.<\/p>\n Same idea, different context.<\/p>\n That\u2019s what I love about folk music.<\/strong><\/p>\n Someone writes a song. If it\u2019s a good song, maybe it lasts. Over the decades, centuries even, singer after singer discovers it…. \u00a0Adding a verse here, taking one away there… \u00a0Folk music is a living tradition.<\/strong><\/p>\n In this spirit, I offer my updated Oleanna<\/strong>, for\u00a0Mamas<\/strong> like me<\/strong>, who are\u00a0feeling more than a little exhausted now and then.<\/p>\n Oh, and one note about the video. You\u2019ll notice that Peregrine has a big scab on her nose.
