background_layout=&#8221;light&#8221; text_orientation=&#8221;left&#8221; text_font_size=&#8221;16&#8243; use_border_color=&#8221;off&#8221; border_color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>As I\u2019ve shared with you, a couple of years ago I embarked on the wild, self -initiated project of releasing a new album of family friendly material each season.\u00a0 I wanted to provide the families who came to my in person classes with a new batch of songs each season.\u00a0 And I wanted to see how I might grow, creatively if I held myself accountable for this level of output.<\/p>\n<p>Today marks the sixth album in this series.\u00a0 What a journey it\u2019s been!\u00a0 This rhythm of content creation has pushed me to my limit, in terms of maximizing productivity while also showing up for my own two young children, and my family.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s also been incredibly rich.\u00a0 My search for new songs has led me to discover folk music traditions that were new to me, from folk songs of Ghana, to children\u2019s playground games from the American south.<\/p>\n<p>New instruments have spoken to me, and I\u2019ve just gone for it, and started learning to play them.\u00a0 This season, I started playing the Celtic harp.\u00a0 (Which you\u2019ll hear on this album!)\u00a0 I am completely in love with this instrument, and am totally committed to learning to play it beautifully.\u00a0 I feel like it\u2019s going to be a huge part of my life.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2867\" style=\"width: 2106px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2867\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2867 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Noe-Playing-Harp.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2096\" height=\"1394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Noe-Playing-Harp.jpg 2096w, https:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Noe-Playing-Harp-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Noe-Playing-Harp-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Noe-Playing-Harp-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Noe-Playing-Harp-1080x718.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2096px) 100vw, 2096px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2867\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Learning to play my new lever harp.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I\u2019ve also met new mentors and deepened existing friendships, as I learn from other song leaders and teachers.\u00a0 This season, I\u2019m thankful to the wonderful\u00a0<strong>Anne Laskey<\/strong>, creator of the <strong>Online\u00a0American Folk Song Collection<\/strong>, who took time\u00a0to share some of her favorite songs with me.\u00a0 I learned many little known gems from her, a good many of which appear on this album.<\/p>\n<p>This is my favorite way to learn songs &#8211; in person. \u00a0Over tea, with or without a guitar.\u00a0 Just two people sharing what they know, and taking delight in these traditions that are so little known, but\u00a0still have so much to offer.<\/p>\n<p>Folk music is like this.\u00a0 It\u2019s not just songs for performance.\u00a0 It\u2019s songs overheard, under the breath, shouted or mumbled.\u00a0 It\u2019s the song in your pocket.\u00a0 The song in your heart.\u00a0 It\u2019s the song you murmured for hours, trying to help your toddler sleep in spite of the fireworks.\u00a0 It\u2019s songs sung by me and you and all of us.\u00a0 In every language.\u00a0 With new verses made up where we need them.\u00a0 Old verses cut away and discarded.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The songs are part of a living tradition, and the\u00a0tradition lives through all who sing them.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Highlights of the Album<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I&#8217;m biased, naturally, but I love the bits where my two children sing :).\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Two year old<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Peregrine<\/strong>, who is very game for this kind of thing, <strong>sings solo on three songs<\/strong>, and <strong>five year old Ember<\/strong>, who resists singing cover tunes, (LOL) contributed <strong>a finger play he made up, called \u201cHere is the Wind.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2869\" style=\"width: 910px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2869\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2869 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ember-recording-6_18.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"675\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ember-recording-6_18.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ember-recording-6_18-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ember-recording-6_18-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.noevenable.com\/singingcircles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ember-recording-6_18-510x382.jpg 510w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2869\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ember records his creation, &#8220;Here is the Wind.&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>My favorite song, currently, is one I wrote, called\u00a0<strong>Tiger, Tiger, So Much to See.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0The song\u00a0is based on a sweet story my husband made up for Ember when he was a baby, and it will also form the basis of <strong>our puppet show<\/strong> for the second half of the in person eleven week class season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I hope these songs bring you joy, like the joy they\u2019ve brought me.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>And thank you,<\/strong> always, for listening and for being on this journey with me.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section bb_built=&#8221;1&#8243;
